Special aCycling Event: McKenzie Pass Ride

Kick off the summer cycling season with an epic road ride to the top of Central Oregon’s iconic McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway! Take in the epic views of the Cascade Mountain Range on this challenging ride. Cyclists ascend the historic 242 route to the Dee Wright Observatory, when the highway is still closed to vehicles. OAS will be supporting up to eight adaptive athletes. Adaptive equipment is first come, first serve. Pre-registration required. Registrants may be asked about their training frequency as this is an advanced ride. See below for ride details!

Transportation: OAS will be offering transportation for up to eight OAS athletes from Bend and Redmond. The OAS bus will depart Bend at 8:00am. Please let us know if you are needing transportation in the registration process, and feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
Ride Details:
The McKenzie Pass Scenic Bikeway is a seasonal highway, only open to cars in the summer months when the high elevation snow has melted and the roads have been cleared. In late spring, enthusiastic cyclists take advantage of the partially plowed roads to ride the pass while it is still closed to vehicle traffic.
This is an advanced ride. Participating cyclists are experienced riders who have been actively training or are prepared for a strenuous ride. Cyclists must be comfortable climbing uphill for up to 3hrs, can manage stable and safe speeds on long descents, and are comfortable riding in variable weather conditions. Two ride options are provided for varying styles of riding and equipment.
Course #1; From the Village Green Park in Sisters, OR:
Distance to Summit: 15.2 miles
Total Distance: 30.4 miles
Elevation Gain: approx. 2,200ft
Estimated ride time: 2-3hrs to summit, 1-2 hrs descent to Village Green
Course #2; From the Gate:
Distance to Summit: 6.5 miles
Total Distance: 13 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: Approx. 1,300ft
Estimated ride time: 2+ hours to summit, 1+ hour descent to Gate
Equipment and Support:
OAS will be providing adaptive cycles, tandem cycles, tandem captains, transportation and logistic support! Please register in advance to reserve your equipment for the ride.
