Turns & Berms 2025: Community in Motion
Turns & Berms 2025: Community in Motion
Three sun-soaked days. A mix of dirt, snow, and a whole lot of laughter.
Last May, athletes rolled into Bend for Turns & Berms, our spring camp that celebrates the magic of Central Oregon’s shoulder season, where you can ski spring corn at sunrise and chase dusty berms before dinner. Mornings were for carving soft snow; afternoons for chasing singletrack on every kind of adaptive bike you can imagine—handcycles, AMTBs, and two-wheel rides fine-tuned to fit each rider’s body, goals, and grit.
The riders who join Turns & Berms are athletes with spinal cord injuries, connected to OAS through our programs or through our longtime partners at the Kelly Brush Foundation. Many campers first met through KBF’s Active Project or other events, and this camp brings that network to life—people who share a love for motion, the outdoors, and community. The rhythm of the weekend was simple. We kicked things off with a barbecue hosted by Kendall Toyota of Bend, and from there it was all about riding together, learning from each other, and having fun. Between sessions, shared meals, drives, and long evening conversations created the kind of moments where community really happens.
What makes Turns & Berms special isn’t just the terrain—it’s the people. Local coaches who understand adaptive gear inside and out, a bike fleet that reflects the real diversity of riders with SCI, and trails built by the same community that rides them. Everyone shows up ready to push themselves, but also ready to lift each other up.
Returning athlete Bill T. summed it up perfectly:
“OAS hosted another glorious Turns & Berms camp, and once again it rang the bell as the best skiing and riding event of the year… So many great athletes and new friends in one big posse makes for a mighty fine stoke… No shame, just a part of the game.”
And maybe the best part wasn’t even the riding. As one camper said,
“The times in the evenings after skiing and riding are just the best. It’s incredible and it makes me feel alive.”
Those moments—around the fire, swapping stories, tired and happy—are what this camp is all about.
Huge thanks to the Kelly Brush Foundation, Kendall Toyota, and the crew of volunteers who make this camp possible every year. Turns & Berms thrives because it’s built by and for the community it serves.
And we’re already counting down the days to Turns and Berms 2026, next May – dates coming soon!
