“The Incredible Dave Nichols”
About Dave Nichols
OAS met Dave in the fall of 2019 during our inaugural partnership with Craig Hospital, the nation’s leading Spinal Cord and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) rehabilitation facility. A resident of Portland, OR, Dave had recently returned home to Oregon after his initial rehabilitation from a TBI while climbing in the North Cascades.
Dave then visited OAS for a week-long adaptive mountain biking retreat with fellow Craig Hospital alumni, gaining skills on an adaptive mountain bike and becoming officially immersed into the OAS community.
Since then, we’ve been humbled as we’ve watched Dave continue to make progress post-injury, on the trails and slopes with OAS, but also in every facet of life. Dave helped spearhead the development and passing of Senate Bill 420 which provides resource navigation for Oregonians with brain injuries. Dave continues to regain independence, impress us with his physical strength, and inspire many with his incredible work ethic. Dave has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University. Dave currently works for a bakery & workshop and is a regular contributor to the OAS Breaking Barriers Blog. Dave along with his teammates was the winner of the Spirit Award at the 2023 OAS Ski For All. Thank you to Dave and his family for sharing his story.
