Program Description

CamPAH! is a Deaf-centric program designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing youth athletes between the ages of 10-19 who want to learn or improve their skiing or snowboarding skills. At OAS, we believe mountain life should be adventurous, fun, and accessible to all. Our goal is to ensure each athlete’s skiing or snowboarding experience is not only successful but unforgettable. 

Each volunteer coach is thoroughly vetted, including background checks, and completes a full day of on-snow training. All coaches are fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) and are either Deaf, a Child of Deaf Adults (CODA), or a certified interpreter.

Hosted annually over Presidents’ Weekend at Hoodoo Ski Area, CamPAH! has supported over 100 young Deaf and Hard of Hearing athletes in beginning their snow sports journey since its inception in 2013. This unique program was founded in collaboration with Cara Frank, a local Deaf snowboard and ski instructor. Together, we’ve created a Deaf-friendly space on the mountain under the OAS banner.

The program’s name, CamPAH!, captures the spirit of the ASL sign “PAH,” which expresses “finally” or “success at last” with enthusiasm and positivity. This sentiment resonates deeply with athletes and reflects the uniqueness of CamPAH!—a program unlike any other.

Eligibility

If your child is Deaf or Hard of Hearing, between the ages of 10-19, and would benefit from instructions in an ASL environment, we invite you to fill out a registration form below.
